Plum Clafouti

Well, I’ve joined on! Last night’s dinner wasn’t anything extraordinary (a big green salad with fennel sausage) I did make one of my all-time favorite desserts: plum clafouti.

Plums in oven

Mom gave me the recipe, it’s in Mastering the Art of French Cooking Vol. II, by Julia Child.

Bake halved pitted sugar plums with sugar, cinnamon, lemon zest and the juice of a lemon for 20 minutes at 350. Set the plums aside and reserve the juice while you make the batter.

A daquiri goes great with cooking on a hot evening.

Put the plums back into a buttered pan and…

Bake for 25-35 minutes at 375F.

It’s just as good as I remembered, I haven’t had this in years. A friend from norcalevo.net stopped by and had a bite too, and just as well! J. and I might have eaten the whole thing if we hadn’t shared it.

Pink and Green grapefruit salad:

Mix
–Pink grapefruit pieces from one large fruit
–Chopped Basil, I think I used about 1/2 tsp but more would be good too
–lettuce
–homemade croutons (but I used 1″ squares of seedy bread toast)

Toss with:

olive oil
salt
cracked pepper

I wish I had taken a picture, it was really pretty and during the days of record-breaking portland weather here, a welcome cold meal.

Welcome to our family’s new food blog, a place for sharing pictures, recipes, etc…  The things we make, photograph, eat, and talk about anyways now have a place on the web.  As soon as everyone signs up with a WordPress username (I am mollyinportland– perhaps chrisinCA and mom&dadinDC?) I can add you as a contributor and we are ready to publish!  I am welcome to ideas regarding souping up the site, a better top banner picture, etc…  Currently, it is our kitchen counter from Christmas this past year (Looks like Mom finally bought enough brussel sprouts) but that can change.

So happy birthday Mom and Dad, and to start things off, a goofy picture of me and giant loaf of bread!
